History of the House

The house was originally built in 1938 by the Alexander Company for Dr. Walter and Edith Hartman. The home was designed by the well-known architect, E. Stewart Williams. The Hartsman’s only occupied the home for a short time before they sold it to Bob Hope in 1941.

In 1945, Sinatra purchased the house from Hope. He and his first wife, Nancy, made many additions and alterations to the property, including a pool, guesthouse and music room. The Sinatras lived in the home until early 1954, when they divorced.

In 1979, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, the house is owned by the Frank Sinatra Foundation and is open to the public for tours. The Foundation has also put the home up for sale on a few occasions, but it has not yet been sold.

About The House

The house is a two-story, stuccoed building with red tile roofs. It features many of the trademarks of E. Stewart Williams’ work, including clerestory windows and exposed rafter tails.

The main entrance to the house is through a set of double doors that are sheltered by an overhang. Once inside, visitors are greeted by a large, open-space living room with high ceilings and clerestory windows. The living room opens up to a patio that overlooks the pool.

The first floor also features a dining room, kitchen, music room and master suite. A series of doors close off this area of the house from the rest of the first floor.

The second floor includes four additional bedrooms and another sitting area that looks down on the living room below. The master bedroom is directly above the sitting area and has a private balcony that overlooks the pool.
